Documentation required to support your application
The following list gives details of different types of documents required for Salford Home Search, however depending on your circumstances there may be specific documents required for your application that are not listed below.
- Passport or Birth certificate or Driving licence for all adults
- Birth certificate or Passport for all children
- If your name (or that of anyone in your household) has changed since birth we will need to see the deed poll showing the change of name.

- Proof of immigration status (i.e. indefinite leave to remain/recourse to public funds)
- Biometric card showing proof of immigration status
- For European (EEA) nationals proof of pre-settled or settled status and proof of employment (contract, payslips).
- Workers registration documents (A10 countries)
- MATB1 document showing the Expected Due Date (EDD)
- Once the baby is born please submit a copy of their birth certificate with a copy of the Child Benefit award letter
- Child Benefit award letter
- Residence order or other supporting documentation to confirm long term guardianship or approved foster care (if the parent or guardian is not on full birth certificate)
- Utility bills (gas, electric, water)
- Tenancy or licence agreement
- Council Tax bill
- Benefit letter (from DWP confirming proof of benefit)
- If living with friends/ family or a hostel - a letter from them confirming your living arrangements
- Copy of last mortgage statement or a valuation of property
- If living in a caravan a copy of your site agreement or letter from owner confirming living arrangements
- Contract of employment or employer’s letter on headed paper, stating your employment location, start date and or
- Payslips
- Proof of offer of employment (paid or unpaid)
- Proof of Profits for last 3 months
- HMRC letter confirming registration for tax and national insurance
- Copy of application to HMRC to pay tax and national insurance as self-employed
- Copy of accounts
- Other documents proving you are running a business e.g. receipts, invoices, promotional materials.
- Bank statements for all accounts held for the past three months and payslips for all adults in the household for the last 5 weeks if paid weekly or last 3 months if paid monthly
- Proof of benefit entitlement letter such as Universal credit, Child benefit etc. showing breakdown of elements
- Pension award letter / annual statements
- Recent bank or building society statement, share certificates or other evidence of investments
- Mortgage statement
- 2 valuations
- Sale completion certificate
- PIP / DLA award letter
- Letter from GP/consultant or any other professional who you/household member are working with
- OT reports
- Cessation of service documents, notice to vacate (if received)
- Discharge papers, any probation letters
- Any supporting documents (eg. injunctions, crime reference numbers, letters or emails from agencies helping you)
- Any supporting documents (eg. crime reference numbers, letters or emails from any agency involved)
- Notice, possession summons or eviction warrant if being asked to leave current home
- Copy of employment contract if accommodation provided with job
- Copy of divorce papers including property settlement and custody matters if leaving due to divorce or letter from solicitor outlining status of marriage
- A letter from the householder
- Proof of residency in the Salford area, that you have and are still living in Salford 2 years or more.
- Proof of employment in the Salford area, for this to apply you must have a contract of permanent employment and work within Salford. You must have been in continuous employment for a period of 6 months. The employment can be full time, part time, zero hours contract or self-employed.
- Proof of family association in the Salford area, for this to apply you must have an active established relationship with a parent, adult sibling or adult child, who are living in Salford in settled accommodation and have been for a minimum of 5 years.
- Former Asylum Seekers in the Salford area, for this to apply you would need to provide evidence that your application for asylum was determined while you were living in accommodation in Salford provided under Section 95 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 and that you have been granted the Right to Remain.
- Proof of an armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines) local connection. Proof that you are one of the following:
- Currently serving or former members of the Armed Forces who left the Service within 5 years of their application to join Salford Home Search.
- A person who is serving, or who has served, in the Armed Forces and who has suffered from a serious injury or disability which is attributable in whole or part, to that Service; and,
- A spouse or civil partner who is or was living in accommodation provided by the Ministry of Defence, and whose former spouse or civil partner was a service person whose death was attributable in whole or in part to their service.
- Divorced or separated spouses or civil partners of service personnel who need to move out of accommodation provided by the ministry of defence.
- Other Special Circumstances: Further information can be obtained from a member of staff regarding special circumstances.
- If you have ever rented a property, please provide an up to date rent reference/statement from your landlord.
