How to take a picture of your evidence

Some important information to consider when taking a picture of your documents.

  • Take the picture from directly above, with your evidence in the centre and filling the majority of, if not all of the screen.
  • Please do not obscure any part of the document.  We need to see  the full document including your full name and address. If part of a document you send us is obscured, we may not be able to accept it and may have to request you provide the document again.
  • Make sure the document is in good light and there are no shadows over the page. If a shadow covers the document and makes it unreadable, we will not be able to accept it and will have to request you provide the document again.
  • Do not take the picture at an angle. A picture of a document taken at an angle can sometimes be unreadable, if it were, we would not be able to accept it and will have to request you provide the document again.
  • Include all of the document. If your picture does not include all of the document, we will not be able to accept it and will have to request you provide the document again.
  • Do not deliberately cover or hide information on the document, unless it is agreed in advance that some of the information should not be seen. If any part of the document is deliberately covered or hidden without prior agreement, we will not be able to accept it and will have to request you provide the document again.

The images below provide examples of how not to photograph a document and also how to photograph a document. In the example some information is blacked out, in any document you send we would not expect anything to be blacked out or covered.
